Jane Goodall

Dr Jane Goodall

I have for decades been concerned about factory farming, in part because of the tremendous harm inflicted on the environment, but also because of the shocking ongoing cruelty perpetuated on millions of sentient beings.

Dr Jane Goodall DBE pioneered a shift in the way we think about animals when she first began her primate research in the 1960s. Having spent her career demonstrating the linkages and similarities that exist between humans and non-human animals, she joined Voiceless as a Patron to help shed light on the cruelty of factory farming methods which she first witnessed in the early 1970s.

In 1977, Jane  founded the Jane Goodall Institute for Wildlife Research, Education and Conservation  to lead the charge in chimpanzee protection.  Since then, she has worked tirelessly throughout her career to foster greater understanding of the human-animal relationship and of the need to protect endangered habitats and species.  Her work has been acknowledged with numerous prestigious accolades including the Gandhi/King Award for Non-violence and honorary doctorates from more than eight universities. In 2003, Jane was named a Dame of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003.

Jane now spends much of her time travelling the world spreading awareness about the plight of animals with the firm belief that education is the key to inspiring change.
