
Ondine Sherman
Ondine Sherman is an Australian author, animal protection advocate, PhD candidate and social entrepreneur. She co-founded Voiceless, the animal protection institute, in 2004 with her father, Brian Sherman AM (1943-2022) and continues as Managing Director. Through Voiceless, Ondine continues to spearhead initiatives to promote systemic change against institutionalised animal cruelty.
Ondine is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney, specializing in sociology and Critical Animal Studies. Her academic pursuits focus on how animal experiences can shape worldviews and moral frameworks. She was a visiting lecturer at the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies and serves as the Editor of Animail, the magazine of the Australasian Animal Studies Association (AASA). Ondine has delivered talks on animal advocacy and critical animal studies at conferences and educational forums. Ondine holds a BA in Communications from the University of Technology, Sydney and an MA in Environmental Studies from Macquarie University.
As an author, Ondine Sherman has published several works that reflect her passion for animal protection. These include Vegan Living: A Simple Guide to a Cruelty-Free, Healthy Plant-Based Life (2020), her young adult fiction series Animal Allies (Sky, Snow, and Star), and her memoir The Miracle of Love (2013), which recounts her journey raising twin boys with severe disabilities.
Ondine Sherman is actively involved in philanthropy and animal advocacy, currently serving as a Director of Thrive Philanthropy and having previously served as a director of the conservation NGO This is My Earth and the MCT8 Foundation.
Currently residing near Tel Aviv with her family, she continues to champion animal rights as the Managing Director of Voiceless, while balancing her roles as a mother, early-career academic, writer, and advocate.
