Dr Joanna Kyriakakis is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Monash University and Deputy Director of the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law. Joanna holds a BA (Philosophy Major), LLB (Hons) and SJD (PhD equivalent) in law. She is the author of numerous articles on business and human rights issues and has worked with government, civil society and international research groups on that subject. Since 2015, Joanna has developed and delivered the curricula for Monash University’s Masters of Law, JD and LLB Animal Law Units. She is currently researching concepts of animal legal personality and has supervised numerous PhD, Honours and Masters projects in areas of animal law, including on: jumps racing; the legal status of animals; the limitations of Victorian animal welfare law; and the prospects of an independent Office of Animal Welfare.
